google-caffeineI’ve been watching this news since November 2009, not realizing that soon, it will confront many websites. And soon is now VERY soon!

  • It’s the next generation of architecture for Google’s web search.
  • It’s a big step in a process that will place empathize on page size.
  • It will confront website indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and more.

From a post at Digital Point Forums:

Google Caffeine is going to change the SERP and the way search query works, Google is now going to give importance to Social media such as twitter, facebook and other such sites. Apart from this Google is going to give more relevancy to the “similar” pages results rather than “cached”.

So is this something I need to be concerned about?
Best that you watch this video from Matt Cutts:

So when is Google Caffeine going live?

This is one of those Google secrets, that just isn’t shared with common people, neither with news reporters. According to Google commentators, it will happen in 2010, sometime after the holidays. Shared at Digital Point, many believe it’s already here, but Search Engine Roundtable doesn’t think so.

All these links and more can be found through this search I performed at Digital Point Forums, Google Caffeine. You need to type in google caffeine on the search page.

Are you concerned? Will your website flourish or falter with the new Google Caffeine? Leave a comment here, or send me an email, and I will personally consult you FREE OF CHARGE as to the probability. Better yet, go ahead and leave a comment. This way we’ll have an open discussion.

  1. UPDATE from SmokeDog at DP forum 01/07/2010 7:52 am :

“Just wanted to drop a note off to you that Caffeine (the new google algo) is now live in the world and is running across most of the Google datacenters.

So look for your rankings to start dancing today. I noticed about 20% of the datacenters I watch going all over the place with my stable rankings.”

    … and later 01/08/2010 7:28 am:

“Alright! its day 2 of the Caffeine update and I have some news to report.

I ran my tools this morning and all of the datacenters are still showing different results. This means that Caffeine is still rolling out. So if your rankings are down the toilet you can still hold out for some improvement. Chances are the rollout will continue on through the weekend and end sometime around monday or tuesday.”

  2. That Search returned No Results.. :(
Here’s a good post on Google Caffeine. You might want to include it in your post.
    http://www.w7b.org/seo/google-caffeine-how-will-it-affect-the-rankings-of-your-webpages.html

  3. Sorry ’bout that – went & changed it -hope it’s valid now. But thanks for this link,Abhik, it explains Google Caffeine is a short, simple way.

  4. Since Search ID’s on a vBulletin Board is cookie based, there are no way one can view other’s searches. The new link is dead also.

You have to mention which section to search and the keywords. like, “Search for ‘caffeine’ in Google Section at DigitalPoint.

And, anyway, I am banned from there. So, it has least interest for me. Sorry.

  5. Thanks Abhik, I corrected this post.

Here’s another recent post from Site-Reference: How to Improve Your Search Rankings on Google Caffeine.

  6. Good post, I read so many things about google you never know what to believe. It generally lies somewhere in between. Do they really need to improve it? Seems to be doing well just the way it is. They could be changing things all the time. Not like they are going to announce it or anything. The best thing you can do to get higher rankings in google is just to make a good website that people will want to go back to. It’s like if you sell food… If it’s good the people will come.

  7. IMO, Google doesn’t need to improve anything, but they still need to be on top with the latest innovations. Thus, Google Caffeine is born.

I agree, you DO need to make a good website, but you still have competition to stay in high rankings. For this, you need on-site and off-site search optimization. And now, you’ll need to abide by a new set of rules to rank well with Google.

I believe we’re about to see some of the old sites that don’t write fresh content, have slow load speed, and/or do not participate with Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and other social sites, being depreciated from their SERP.

  8. Hi, I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the awesome work Look forward to reading more from you in the future. Jenni.

  9. This just shows that SEO really is a moving target. Its difficult to plan ahead in this field. Anybody knows where the “caffeine” name comes from?

  10. Yup, SEO workers need to keep a constant watch for any new updates.

    From neowin.net:

“Caffeine is the name given to Google’s next generation search index and algorithm. The aim of the new system is to improve the speed, accuracy, index size, and overall result relevancy of the world’s most popular search engine. Caffeine also puts a strong emphasis on real-time indexing. Back in August, Google released a public preview of the new engine. Overall, reviews have been positive.”

  11. Hi,

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the great work Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

    Jenni.

  12. Social comments and analytics for this post…

This post was mentioned on Twitter by stevestuff: Will #Google Caffeine Affect Your #SEO? http://bit.ly/8xz1RC...

  13. Thanks Jenni, I endeavor to uncover related topics to all phases of SEO and website design, as I am absorbed by these topics.

  14. Do we know how much relevance will be placed on the social media aspects (i.e. – facebook, twitter, etc.)? Seems odd to penalize businesses who don’t participate in social media – just my opinion.

  15. Hey Omaha, I was wondering the same thing, and it looks like Twitter & Facebook are indeed included in search results – especially in “Latest results for …” And if you place one of these ‘@’ before a name, such as @stevestuff, click on Latest (under Show options) it will return results for that account at Twitter.

And here’s some info from aimclearblog.com: Google Counts Twitter in Some SERP Suggestions.

  16. LOL this is a funny place. I think You dont know what You are writing about. Better see some TRUTH on Saltydroid and stop whining like a clown.

  17. Hi Salty Droid, glad to receive this comment from you, even though it’s negative … I welcome all responses here.

“I think You dont know what You are writing about.”

Maybe you haven’t read this post. But I did a bit of checking on you,and see that you’ve been banned from Twitter. Hmm – what was that about? And I saw your blog … there’s absolutely no organization there; likely resembles your life. And you don’t have your own domain – maybe you don’t care to look professional. Even your comment here: dont isn’t a word.

Well, you got your backlink here – I wish you good luck with whatever you do.

  18. In agreement with you Steve, unlike Saltydroid, I found your article very informative and accurate. Keep up the good work and ‘dont’ let morons like Saltydroid put down your well written content.

  19. Thanks Steve for this accurate information. SEO becomes more and more complex every day and we have to keep the paste. With all the social media sites (facebook twitter etc…), and since google will give more importance to these sites, I guess that I will have to work harder to keep in the race!

  20. No Arkel, you don’t have to work harder – you have to play more. Keep informed by reading about the latest trends. Get an email subscription to your favorite news supplier. I use search engine land for this.

  21. Hello, as you may already discovered I am new here.
I will be happy to get any assistance at the start.
Thanks and good luck everyone! ;)

  22. Not sure if it is really my web browser simply because I still just had never time to upgrading and am continue employing IE 6 but My spouse and I spotted some type of weird code all around the website . It shows now this with various different stuff immediately after it, like Caution: Impossible modify head string … and the like. It Is a bit unusual mainly because for me internet pages such as for instance yahoo.com and google.com and even my personal 1 [... link removed ...] do appear without trouble.

  23. Internet Explorer has the worst web browsers, and IE6 is now no longer supported by numerous websites. IE is so behind – even their home page has more errors than words on their page (over 350 errors).

Get Firefox – the SAFE web browser!

  24. Do you think that facebook and myspace ads will count towards google’s ranking? Technically the sites are in the social media sites and have a ton of links from different areas. If that is the case smaller sites will pay simply because they can’t afford it. Developing a following on twitter, facebook, myspace etc will be great for the smaller sites (as well as free), but it’s also easier for big names to make their fb pages have more fans etc by advertising. It’s a loss-loss situation. I’m just hypothesizing actually, what do you think?

  25. Hi Mario, IMHO, I don’t think placing ads on Facebook and MySpace will add to your SERP. But then, you should be the one to know, if the referred website is yours.

  26. Whether Google caffeine affects your website or not, it’s not to a website’s advantage to load slowly. People aren’t going to wait for sites that can’t load.

  27. New version of Google (caffeine) shows fast result than older version so webmaster should web page minimizes size. New version not index duplicate content pages. Webmaster should enter new unique content.
